Rated “Outstanding” by Robert M. Parker, Jr
The 2010 Proprietary Red is a blend of 60% Cabernet Franc, 26% Merlot and the rest Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. A beautiful nose of blueberries, raspberries, violets and forest floor are followed by a medium to full-bodied, dense wine with striking purity, plenty of ripe fruit and an ethereal sense of elegance and lightness for such intense flavors. There is not a hard edge to be found in this luscious wine that should drink nicely for 12-15 years.
This is a project of Jennifer Williams, a young, talented winemaker, who is using some old vine Cabernet Franc from a vineyard once exploited by Tony Soter before he moved to Oregon. These are interesting, complex wines, and consumers who believe Napa Valley cannot produce elegant, finesse-filled reds should check them out.

The 2010 Arrow&Branch Napa Valley Red Wine blends five Bordeaux varieties to create a unique and pleasurable wine that pops with a lively energy from nose to palate. It boasts a vinous perfume of spice (think anise), tobacco, candied orange peel and savory herbs. Warm and peppery on the entry, its ripe fruit include fresh blackberries and sweet cherry reduction. It’s a supple, seamless, layered wine of violet and berry compote made complex by notes of warm baked bread. The wood is quietly integrated leaving traces of milk chocolate and creating a gentle support for a beautiful wine. Interesting, with deft balance, this wine is structured and delightfully fresh but also suavely textured, long and full; finishing with a pleasing sweetness. This harmonious beauty will improve in the bottle over the next 10-15 years.
